Undergraduate Advising

For undergraduate students majoring in areas within the School of Sciences, advisors are assigned based on your year of study and your major.  If you are a fully admitted freshman or sophomore with a major within the School of Sciences, you will be advised through the Sciences Advising Center.  The only exceptions to this are:

  • Freshman and above Medical Laboratory Science majors should see the CLS advisor (as listed in the Biology department advising information).
  • Freshman and above  Biology Secondary Education Majors should see the Biology Secondary Education Advisor (as listed in the Biology department advising information).
  • Freshman and above Mathematics majors who are eligible to enroll in Calculus I (students who have successfully completed a college Pre-calculus and Trigonometry course, have a score of 25 or above on the Math portion of the ACT, or have a score of level 7 on the AUM Math Placement Test).  These students should see an advisor in the Department of Mathematics (as listed in the Mathematics department advising information)

To make an appointment with the Sciences Advising Center, call 334-244-3592.

  • Dr. Bridgette Harper,  Director, School of Sciences Advising Center, 207 Goodwyn Hall, 244-3551, bharper3@aum.edu.
  • Ms. Belinda Marable, Academic Advisor, 207 Goodwyn Hall, 244-3875, bmarabl1@aum.edu
  • Ms. Leslie Blaylock, Academic Advisor, 207 Goodwyn Hall, 244-3532, lblayloc@aum.edu

Health Sciences Advising:

Health Sciences is not a major.  However, AUM has a Health Sciences advisor who advises:

  • All sophomore level and above students who are interested in preparing for professional school in the health sciences. (Medical, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Dental, Optometry, Physical Therapy, and other pre-health areas)
  • Students who already have an undergraduate degree and are taking courses to prepare for professional school in the health sciences. (Medical, Veterinary, Pharmacy, Dental, Optometry, Physical Therapy, and other pre-health areas)

To speak with the Health Sciences advisor, call Ms. LaTora Todd Jackson at 334-244-3694 or email ltodd@aum.edu.

Advice on advising!

  • You will need to be advised each term in order to receive the "alternate
PIN" number that will allow you to register for classes using WEBSTER.
  • Sign up for an advising appointment early--October for Spring term, March for Fall and Summer terms.  Then when registration opens, you'll be ready to go!
  • Your advisors are here to help you schedule the classes you need to earn your degree and prepare for the next step in your career.  But ultimately this is your degree--you are  responsible for the choices you make and the courses you sign up for!  Know your degree program and requirements, and keep track of your own progress.
